Welcome
Welcome to the Friday Quiz website. My name is Jeff Whittington and every Friday morning (around 08:30 BST/GMT) I email out a quiz to a list of keen quizzers. The quiz was started some while ago by my nephew Chris, who passed it on to my brother Barrie, who in turn, bequeathed it to me.
The quiz usually consists of 25 general knowledge questions plus either a picture quiz or something similar. There are no prizes, apart from the glory of being top quizzers for the week. The rules are fairly basic, you can play as a team or an individual, simply answer as many questions as you can (you get one point per correct answer), but you should only use your brains for the answers, which means no Googling or Wikipediaing or anything similarly naughty. However, I, obviously, have no way of checking, so I rely solely on your honesty and integrity.
If you want to join in the fun, simply complete the form below and I will add your details to the list. Hopefully you will find the quiz enjoyable and if you have any comments or suggestions, use the same form below.

A little bit about me
I was born in Wimbledon but moved to Standish near Wigan in 1974. Soon after moving there I joined the Foresters Arms pub quiz team who then played in the Standish Quiz League and my life in, and love of, quizzes began. I have set all sorts of quizzes - pub quizzes, quiz league quizzes, fun quizzes, music quizzes, in fact I even supplied some questions for the PC version of the Weakest Link computer game.
In April 2000, my wife and I moved to Spain and within a couple of months I was working for the English-language newspaper Costa Blanca News. Initially I was employed as a proof reader but was soon setting all the puzzles, quizzes and crosswords for their various publications, including The Post (which still contains some of my crosswords). Sadly, in February 2009 I was made redundant but my puzzle setting didn't end there and I changed my allegiance to the Euro Weekly News, for whom I now set all their puzzles, quizzes and crosswords.
Apart from quizzes, I enjoy watching rugby league and running with the Costa Blanca Striders in Spain and the Wigan Phoenix in the UK. I have taken part in loads of road races from a mile upwards and have completed eight marathons. I was first home in my age category at the 2009 Loch Ness marathon in a time of 3:15:21 and also the 2010 Valencia marathon in a new PB of 3:11:57. On January 30 (2011) in the inaugural Pego half marathon, I ran my first ever sub-90 minute half marathon (89:28) and was also third in the Vets C category (over 55s). Just over a month later on March 6, I ran my second half marathon in under an hour and a half (88:37) in Oliva and another third place in the Vets C category.
On April 17, 2011, I ran my first ever race in England, the Virgin London Marathon, and knocked over four minutes off my PB (03:07:30). I was also fourth in the Over 60s age group out of 501 and 1,559th overall out of around 35,000.
On June 18 (2011), three days short of my 64th birthday I won my first ever race. I was first home (out of 48) in the Pennington Flash parkrun in a time of 19:51. Since then I have won the PF parkrun another three times (June 25, August 20 and September 3 in a new PB of 19:24).
On September 14, 2011, Guinness World Records officially confirmed: The fastest marathon run by parent and child on aggregate was 5 hr 47 min 58 sec by Jeffery Whittington and his son Russell Whittington (both UK) at the 2011 Virgin London Marathon in London, UK, on 17 April 2011. Russell finished in 2 hr 40 min 28 sec and Jeffery in 3 hr 07 min 30 sec.
